Vine from slovenia in Hamburg-Rissen - A History

In May 2017 between the raindrops we planted vine from slovenia on our large balcony and our orchard beside our appletrees.
We used small stakes because we can`t knowed if the vine will grow because it`s vine from the south of europe.
Our vine yard is small but is a right place with rich in nutrients, safed from wind and real sunny (if it`s schining).
The same on the balcony where started grow two plants from the oldest vine from Maribor (Solvenia).
The vine in the orchard growed well. We let growed select plants, like thistles, between the vine to protect them from sun and dryout. And it works. Our Orchard vine growing well.
Our plants on balcony growed well at first but after summer in the ground was builded ammonuim chloride which kill the oldest vine. Some people sitted in some of the vine plants so they lost it`s shoots and it`s life.
At our orchard the terms and conditions are so well that our vine is growing fine.
In september 2017 the students are changed the small stakes into right posts. On this way the vine will get anough space to grow.
We found the first bunch of grapes at our vine plant.
In November the studenst from Maribor visited Hamburg and helped work at our orchard and schow how to care the vine from slovenia.
They helped and showed us how to cut the grapes.
In march 2018 our students cleaned up the bed of vine and by teh beginning of april we can see the first small buds at our vine. It`s vive!
Now, by the beginning of May we see the bigger buds from vine. We have actually temperatures by 11 degree at day and 5 to 7 degree by night, but it grow.
In last april we planted two new branch from the oldest vine from Maribor and we hope that it will also growing well than the other one.
We wish the vine a wonderful life!
It`s schow us taht the climate change will made thinks easier and possible. Since decades it`s growed vine at "Stintfang" by the Landungsbrücken in Hamburg but now it`s possible beside a big town with different temperatures like Hamburg-Rissen.

Pumpkin growsery Part 2

few days after seeding our vegetables and Pumkin seeds and after a small phase of "sleeping" our seed "explode". Our " came "Pastinaca sativa" came late and not all but it grow.
Our "Beta vulgaris" strated at first and began in the last days more slowly to grow but the most of it.
Our Oilpumkin are the winner! In a few day they got 10 centimeters in length! Wow.
Now we wait, that we get Weather with constant over 10 degrees, so that our Pumkins will not died.
This actually pictures show the development of our seeds.
Thge next step will be dig the gardenbed for plant it. But on owing that our students have examniations we have to look if we get time.

HH Heart analysis

In our Stadtteilschule Rissen we don`t have a veterinary but somtimes we can use real parts.
In this actually week we have the examination of the junior high school by end of class 9. For the students with secondary modern school or higher, we offered a course to dissect a heart of a cow.
Our students had see the differnt parts of the heart and it`s structures and weighed it.

They fill the coronary vessel with coloured Water to see the connections.
The students are very interested in and work intensiv.
Very interseting was one heart which to gain weight and build illness structures at the epikard.
The students had in this way a comparison between a healthy and an ill heart. The fat-structures are very hart and in this way the heart can`t work correctly.

HH Pumpkin growsery

In the last weeks, after the frost leave our orchard we started to reactived our pumkinfield.
We dig it over and put on a new fence to protect them.
On the left side you can see a part of our growing naturalstone wall, where we will plant: Rosmarinus officinalis, Thymus, Lavandula angustifolia
The leafs and blossoms we want to use ffor tea, soap and pomander.
In a old male toilette we construct a greenhouse for our vegetable and pumkin seeds.
After one week we had see how fast it`s grow.

Our spring comes slowly up

Since the last weeks in Hamburg the spring started slowly. By day we have temperature by 20 and at night by 5 to7 degrees. The flowers and animal are confused. So we saw only some early spring flowers. The growing rates are very small.
Our "Rubus sectio Rubus" stared slowly two weeks ago, but grow really becuase the temperatures.
LAst week it was possible to see that the first energie gone into the bud from our wine from slovenia.
On thurday the 17.4.2017 we plant our new wine from the historic grapevine from Maribor which was brought from our collegues of the agriculture school there.
The students from Maribor showed us in November 2017 how to plant and how to cut the vine.
Now we hope that we don`t get some nights with frost.
Our apple-trees stared also with there first small buds.

Raised garden bed in Rissen

The week with students from Maribor gave us a lot of new material to learn. We learn not only to meet them, some new words:), friends, how to work in a area of gardening, apple chips, potato chips ... With their energy we finally have raised garden bed!

Potato chips

Step 1:
We peel the potatos and cut them in thin stripes.
Step 2:
We put the potato stripes on a baking tray and grease them with oil.
Step 3:
We bake them 5 to 10 minutes @ 260 °C.
Step 4:
When the potatos are done, we spicy them (salt, pepper or what you wish).
We are looking forward to bake potato chips with you.

Preparing a wall

As history has shown Germans are experts in building a wall! ;-) In order to protect our pumpkins against "curious hunters" we decided to build a wall. In the last weeks several pumpkins has been stolen. So we had 2 alternatives: camping in a tent night by night in the meadow to observe our 'babies' or building a wall to protect our tasty vegetable.

Our first measurements

In our project we will compare the measured growth of the pumpkins and apples.
We picked out an apple branch, that we will follow during the year.
We will look, how the branch grows up and how it changes during the seasons.
We measured the left pumpkins which has not been stolen yet.
Harvesting pumpkins is hard work!
You can see the measurements of the pumpkins in the grid. The biggest pumpkin so far achieved 7 kilos!
